This tutorial is for crocheting rectangles working outwards, using solid squares and slanted lines. For this tutorial, I have designed a placemat for you to practice with. The pattern is free and can be downloaded further down this page. This placemat is crocheted using two solid colors, but you will naturally achieve a beautiful effect using gradient yarn that transitions from the center to the outer edges.
